Hey folks I am shopping for a Deluxe strat this week, and am wondering about the premium ash version, because ash tends to be a lot heavier than alder. Unless it's swamp ash, but I would assume Fender would say so if it was.

Why is it premium? Fewer pieces? Selected for grain?

Any Deluxe Ash-body owners out there want to tell me about their guitars? Boat anchors or typical strat weight (7.5lbs)?

My Sept 2008 MIA Sienna Burst = 8.30lbs = 3.78k

It's ash/maple (but not a deluxe)

Mine is an Am Del ash/maple. It's very heavy compared to a friend's MIM. Regarding tone, it's classy and inspiring, although I'd like the body to be more resonant-even unplugged it's kind of "muffled" as I've mentioned earlier in the forum. The note definition is excellent, real single coil clarity.
