Hello guys,
I have a Fender stratocaster american deluxe with a S-S-S configuration and a S1 Siwtch. I want to replace the bridge pickup for a Dimarzio DP182 Fast Track 2, But on the dimarzio site they recommend to use a 500k volume pot. And that's why i am here to ask, do i have a stock 250k pot or a 500k pot on my guitar ? And if it's a 250k, where can i find a 500k volume pot with the switch ?

Thank you in advance and sorry if my english is bad, i'm french =)

Welcome and your English is commendable.

You have a 250K pot. The complete 500K S-1 unit, Fender part # 0061257000 can be ordered from any Fender parts dealer.

SSS strat come with 250 K pots.
Si tu laisses en place ton 250 k le nouveau pickups sonnera plus" bright " qu'avec un 500 K . Tu peux essayer avant.

With 250 k your Dimarzio will be more bright.

Ton anglais est très bon , tu as pensé a aller sur le forum international , tout en bas de la page d'acceuil , il y a une section en français " French ". Mais tu auras sans doute plus de réponses côté "anglais " .

Wow thank you both for the fast answers ! Is it hard to replace the volume pot since i have never done this before ? Also I heard that the dimarzio has 4 wires and the fender stock pickup has 3 wires so i will have to put 2 wires together, right ? This is the first time i replace my pickup and i'm a bit scared to do a mistake =).

PS: Je poste sur le forum anglais pour avoir plus de réponses effectivement =D.

You're quite welcome.

If you've never done it before, yes, replacing the S-1 can be a challenge.

Also yes, the black and white wires of the DiMarzio will have to be wired together and insulated. The DiMarzio red wire will be the positive and the DiMarzio green wire will be the ground.

As has also been stated, the 500K pot will make your remaining two Fender pickups sound quite 'tinny'. You'd do best to run a 470K resistor from each of their respective terminals on the pickup selector switch to ground so that the pickups will electronically "see" a (close to) 250K pot when selected, thus retaining the tonality they have now.

Frankly, this is not a beginner's project. I urgently recommend that you have someone who is well experienced in soldering small components to accomplish this for you.

Have you already bought the Fast Track 2? There are other single-coil size humbuckers that are voiced to work well with 250K pots. For example, the Duncan Little'59 is designed to be used with 250K pots so it's very compatible with your stock wiring.

You are right martian about soldering , IMO it is the most "difficult" thing to know/ do in pots or any electronic replace .

Soldering is easy to learn . It should have video on You Tube about that

Right now I haven't bought it yet but I really want it because I know a guitarist on youtube who has this pickup and his sound is just amazing (his name is Jerryc, he's quite famous on youtube for his "canon rock") and by the way he has the same guitar as mine (the USA Deluxe s-s-s with s1 switch).
