They are opposites in terms of midrange and output. The TXs have a midrange hump and are more powerful vs. your 'typical' Strat pickup. The BDs possess a 'dipped' midrange and are less powerful ('dipped' too) than your 'typical' Strat pickup.

The necks are different on them as well as the pickups. The SRV has a large D shaped neck. The Mayer has a large C shaped neck. With the Mayer you get a rosewood fingerboard. With the SRV, you get pau ferro. If you have large hands, I don't think you will have a problem with either, although my hands are average and the SRV felt easier to play. As far as the pickups go, they sound completely different, both good though. The last post explains it perfectly. "Dippers" have the mid-range scooped.

Matter of fact Mayer used to play an SRV strat. You can catch some youtube videos with him playing one. His model took some traits of that and added a lot of his own input. But in the end, two different guitars.

You already have the SRV so add a nice white with rosewood Mayer to your collection. Pick me up one while you're at it. ;)
