I REALLY want a strat '57 reissue and I just can't decide what to do: Buy a ST57-TX MIJ or save up a bit more money and get the American Vintage one?

PLEASE help me out of this dilemma!

Those are both fine guitars. But there are differences between them...namely the AVRI has a Nitro-cellulous finish where as the MIJ would be polyeurothane. If you are looking to keep the guitar long term, and want it to stay new looking go with the MIJ. If on the other hand you don't mind the gently weather look after a few years (how many depends on how you take care of it) then go with the AVRI.

Of course the pickups will be a bit different, but the necks are similar as are the body, with the AVRI being a bit more curvey.

And lastly, the AVRI will more than likely retain more of its value over the long term.

If it were me I would go with the AVRI...I did long ago (1982) and still have that guitar and it has never let me down on a gig or even playing at home for some fun.

FWIW
