Some preliminary legwork using a Google Search for 'Clapton Midboost' produced a host of links which will certainly be of interest to you. The Fender aftermarket cost of the kit ranges between $50-70 US depending on vendor. You can also Google Search Lace Sensor Pickups for similar info. Premier Guitar Mag did a feature article on the TBX tone pot which is a 'stacked' pot. After all is said and done I would expect you to judge whether you're getting a bang for your buck buying these parts for what ever purpose you intend them.

Will getting a Clapton Midboost
make you play & sound like Clapton :?:

Not unless it's installed in a 1988 Pewter Signature Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster

Just replace the stock VNs and drop the Gold Lace set there!

Nah! Better to be looking for an '88 instead and leave the LTD stock.

Though both finishes are nearly identical, I prefer sticking the Gold Laces into the EC Grey LTD and run the guitar through a tweed Twinolux and a Wampler SLOstortion.

Of course I can put back the stock pickups at any moment!

Chromeface. How do you like the Twinolux?
Which vintager amps or sounds can you compare it to?

Well I have done a direct comparison between Laces and VN's on my own 'boosted' Standard Strat and also a '97 'Blackie' that had a set of VN's put in by the previous owner. IMHO the Lace Golds have way more fidelity and feel than the VN's. I have now gone to a Blue, Silver, Red combo in my Standard and stuck the original Golds back into the 'Blackie'.

Lace Sensors, I love 'em!

I agree. I found the VN too glassy and lacking the luster that the Gold Laces have. I have tried several of the Fender Noiseless pickups and did not care for them—all except the N3s.

I have a guitar with Lace Sensors,
but I feel each guitar sounds different.
Pretty much like the way they are,
or my guitars get pickups till they are right for me.

Right now, one HSH is getting good humbucker work.
I do really enjoy my 1990 Fender Stratocaster Plus Ultra.
Toppscore :)

If you decide putting Lace Sensors into your bad boy, my personal recommendation is Emerald/Purple (neck), Hot Gold (mid), Red/Red (bridge).

Neck and bridge pickups are humbucking duallies.

What's the date on this photo? [img][img] Is this really an LTD w/Lace Sensors? Looks more like a Pewter.

You really have a 'thing' for this stomp box. It's not the first time you've spoken of it.

You're quite right about that photo, it dates from 1990! The guitar you're talkin' about is the SMOKER'S GUITAR with the Stevens FLAME MAPLE neck in its original PEWTER body. The shot was taken a COUPLE OF MONTHS before that neck being transferred into a BLACK body.

Of course there was another SMOKER'S axe featuring a BIRDSEYE MAPLE neck which served as a backup.

FYI I used the picture for reference purposes.

I saw the SLOstortion since a couple of months ago. I believe this amp simulator could recreate the early 1990s Clapton sound flawlessly.

Everyone can easily exchange the Noiseless pickups for a set of Gold Laces and plug their EC Grey LTD into the SLOstortion and a pair of Twinoluxes (since Eric uses two amps for clean and crunch).

Thanks for the info. Pedals are my next venture. I have a few
older pedals and whas, but, will be looking at some new products, soon.
