There were quite a few Fenders with Lace Sensors; the main period was 1987 through 1997 but a couple of models extended beyond that. Supposedly the unmarked pickups on the current version of the James Burton Signature Tele are Lace Sensors under the covers, but that would be the only model still in production. Here's the rundown of the models and their pickups only; of course these all had other unique features.

Holy Cow, John C!!! Great Lace Sensor & Strat Plus history lesson.
Did Fender ever make James Burton signature Telecaster guitars with two pickups
instead of three? or are ALL James Burton Telecasters with three pickups?
Toppscore 8)
Well yes and no. All the USA-built Burton Signatures have 3 pickups (there have only been the two versions of the USA Burton Signature - the originals with the branded Laces and the paisley finishes and the current ones with the unmarked pickups and the hot-rod flames over the paisley finish). The MIM Burtons are traditional 2-pickup Teles.

Yes. I have met the man via friends in Las Vegas. He has played with some of the
great roots rockers. Have my eye on a Burton Tele, someday . . . . . :D
Thanks, John C. Toppscore 8)

Good luck. Have a blast. Not all guitars are perfectly equal.
I am just getting to know my Fender Stratocaster Plus Ultra.
Some great new tones there, for me.

Have you checked Xhefri's website?

Jeff at the Xhefri site = http://xhefriguitars.com/index.html is great.
I purchased two guitars based upon his information.
Also, "John C" from the forum is great and giving of info, as well.
I have run across many that will help.

These pickups aren't Lace Sensors.

Fender claims the pickups on the current signature model are special-design blade single-coils made to James' exacting specs.

Question. Did not Fender end their relationship with Lace
because Fender developed their on model of noise reduction pickups?

I suppose it's reasonable to think so but I don't recall any official confirmation of this. What I do know for fact, and from Eldred in these pages, is that when they developed the vintage noiseless they sent it to Clapton and he liked them better than the Lace Sensors for his guitar. Thereafter came the SCN's. The rest is history.

That's what Fender states they are - and until recently I always assumed they were like the Bill Lawrence noise cancelling single coils from the 70s/early 80s with the blades under the covers. I made the Bill Lawrence assumption because this change from the Lace Sensors to the current pickups happened during the SCN era for the American Deluxes, and I know Bill Lawrence was the designer for the SCNs.

However, there are a couple of posters over on tdpri.com (the Tele discussion page) who claim they've taken these apart and they are really the Lace Sensors under the covers. No one provided photos to back it up, but this school of thought seems to be accepted over there.

If they really are blade pickups under the covers then there are no more factory Fenders with Lace Sensors since the demise of the USA Buddy Guy Strat.

......and I was also given to understand [ from a very, very, reliable source which I am not priviledged to share with you] that the 'blond' stage guitar Buddy is currently using does not have active electronics. Whether that's changed in the past 12 mos I cannot say..but that's the time frame within which I had this one on one conversation.

Bill is also the man who was behind the humbucking Jazz Bass pickups used on many Fender basses (Blacktop P, Modern Player J, Big Block P, pre-2010 American Deluxe P IV & V, Roscoe Beck IV & V).

So there's a guy here with the push pull tone the pre amp and the three pickups out of a Clapton strat for $115.00. Is that a good buy?

You're basically buying parts. If you know you're way around wiring guitars, its a question of need. There's more to the Clapton circuit than just the board, and there's no push-pull pot in that guitar. The pickups would have to be either Gold Lace Sensors, or Fender Vintage Noiseless.

Three genuine fender gold lace sencers with gold lettering. A set of stacked pots of some sort and the circuit board and some other pot. I assumed it was a push pull pot. These are fender genuine parts that were bought from fender and used on another guitar. You still may be able to locate nos parts like these used ones once were. But I'm just wondering if $115 is a good deal as I am in the market.

Some preliminary legwork using a Google Search for 'Clapton Midboost' produced a host of links which will certainly be of interest to you. The Fender aftermarket cost of the kit ranges between $50-70 US depending on vendor. You can also Google Search Lace Sensor Pickups for similar info. Premier Guitar Mag did a feature article on the TBX tone pot which is a 'stacked' pot. After all is said and done I would expect you to judge whether you're getting a bang for your buck buying these parts for what ever purpose you intend them.
