I wonder if it sounds a bit under-powered compared to the solo humbuckers in postions one and five?

No, surprisingly not really. It has a very different sound, but not underpowered. You sure don't have to ratchet up the volume to keep it even. Fender did a REAL nice job on this guitar in balancing the pickups. The real beauty to me though is in positions 2 and 4 that blend the two... beautiful stuff. Interestingly the neck pickup has a darker deeper sound with less attack to my ears than the bridge HB. They are all 5 very different results with the 5-way...

"150 Units globally in each color." Are Fender flying a kite with this FSR? If they sell fast I wonder if we'll see a regular HSH in the catalog in due course?

They did sell fast. Time will tell, but I HOPE Fender thinks about more HSH options with this kind of balance.

Hey Dunzie, I'm not surprised, but that's good to hear.

Without getting into debates about the rights and wrongs of humbuckers in Strats, HSH has always seemed one of the obvious gaps in Fender's catalog that they've inexplicably left vacant. All those Satriani and similar spec guitars out there shows there's buyers for such models, so it's a bit of an odd omission.

Mind you, HH Strats have been a tad thin on the ground in recent years too, so it doesn't look like Fender necessarily feel they have to have all the bases covered.

Anyway. We'll see...

Cheers - C
