Can it be done?

If the body has a 2 post tremolo, will the FR drop in? Does the neck have to shimmed? What other mods have to done?

For vintage style tremolo bodies, I know post holes will have to be drilled. Is neck shims or any other mods needed?

For those of you that are curious. My last guitar with a FR was stolen about 2 years ago. I've been doing fine without one, I just want one. I've played on FR equipped guitars for most of my playing years (26 yrs).

I see so many MIM strats in pawn shops for cheap. The thought came across about putting a FR on one popped in head.

And also, I'll be adding the FR locking nut. Any suggestions would be appreciated. All drilling will be free hand, no drill press.

Thanks,
Rolls

You'll need to perform some major alterations to your Strat in order to fit the original Floyd Rose tremolo properly.

If you're worry about seriously damaging your guitar, contact a professional luthier; otherwise find a used deluxe locking tremolo assembly on eBay and buy an LSR nut with a set of locking tuners.

DO NOT DIY!
DO NOT DRILL FREE HAND!

This is a major customizing job. If you're off just a 10th inch when drilling the pole holes, the guitar will not be playable.

You need to route under the trem.

Take your guitar to a professional luthier.

After looking at several pics of old Kramers, I was gonna set it up to dive only. Just thought it would be a drop in on a 2 post body.

You guys are more than likely right. I probably shouldn't be doing the work. I think I'll look at getting a new body and neck, and having me forum partscaster. I've assembled a couple of guitars before. One of them was FR equipped. I want this one to feel more like my Am. Dlx. strat, but with an HSS config.

Then the Deluxe Locking Tremolo is just right for you!

This product is discontinued by Fender as of 2007, find a used one on eBay.

Don't forget to purchase an LSR Roller Nut and Fender locking tuners to complete the assembly!

+1!

I think you'll find this option is more cost-effective and far easier to install.
