I would like to get a stratocaster body painted.

Can anyone recommend someone who specializes in painting guitar bodies?

Thanks

I already went to him and he charged me $900.00 for a fret dressing and a buff job.

I don't have an answer, but I'm interested in the answer. I'd like to get a Clapton Strat in Daphne Blue. I'm thinking I may just get an Olympic White and have it refiinished since the Daphne Blue seems to be pretty rare. I promise to fully disclose a refinish if I do it. :P

Well. From you invoice it's clear he did a bit more than just a buff and fret dress. But that still seems bionically expensive. Did you get an estimate of those charges before the work was started?

Anyway. To answer the question, several Forum users have had amazing work done by this gentleman, though he sometimes has a waiting list:

And many, many more guitar refinishers out there too. Get Googling.

Cheers - C

This subject has been on here a few times. I still think it's cheaper to buy a Strat in the colour you want, then change p/ups etc as necessary. If you're in the UK, the problem is getting the more unusual colours (Graffiti Yellow?!).

I have a Plus refinished in Sonic Blue nitro for £200 and am very happy with it, but was it financially worthwhile? Probably not!

I'm not sure that just anyone who can paint a car can also paint a guitar?
and I'm not sure that just anyone who can paint a guitar can paint a car?

Wood and metal have a different process .....do they not?
Different types of paint have different properties....

Possibly an expert in this field could explain?

Babalooga is right. An experienced auto painter will have no trouble painting a guitar body. Many a Fender were painted with auto body paint.

And he didn't say " ...anyone who can paint a car can also paint a guitar."

He said "Most any automotive body shop can refinish a guitar."

I have seen strats painted with spray paint.....anything can be done
But there is definitely a wide spectrum between the right and wrong way
to do things......

Go to the Re Ranch site it will give you step by step how to refinish a guitar. Its not that hard Ive done 2 so far and they cam out very good. Im finishing a esquire as we speak. Its a process but can be done with alittle patience. I don't think I can paint a car. Paints the same Fender used car paint from the start.
