I have Classic Player 50's strat, mexican made and I've experienced a strange problem - during the play I swiched roughly to the neck pickup and notice some strange distorted sound.

Now, the middle tone control knob effects 1, 2 & 4. switch positions, and the neck tone control pot effects 2, 3, 4 & 5. switch positions!
The bridge pickup sounds little bit quieter and the neck pickup is louder, slightly distorted.

At first I thought that the pickup selector switch messes around with pickup selection but when I go from position 1 towards position 5 everything sounds ok, the sound is becoming thicker as it should be.

I picked the guard off for the first time, everything looks ok, but I think I can feel some strange smell on the pickup selector switch, something like burn.

Now, the guitar sound pretty ok, I've got an extra tone control on the bridge pickup which is nice, but I'm sure something went wrong and I would like to fix it.

Should I change selector switch, it's very cheap, or something else? I would like to try to fix it on my own before I took the guitar to a professional, it's pretty expensive in my country...

From the guitar itself it is impossible something burn inside or your amp is defective ans send some voltage to the guitar . But I never heard about that.

What is your amp ? new ? buy second hand ?

Look you have to replace the switch. How old your guitar ?

Bad or defective wiring issues, IMO. Your guitar needs a solid repair. :?

If you're unsure how to fix those problems thyself, contact your local Fender dealer or take your axe to an expert luthier.

Hi newhornet,

If you have the Classic Player 50s Strat, the selector switch is a "Super Switch" and has four switch sections. It is possible that one or more sections of the switch are broken, while other sections still function.
