Hello All,
I'm new to this community, from Frederick, Md. I'm 51 a 34 year basemnet guitar hacker who stopped playing when I lost my Tech job in 2002. Recently I've returned to playing. I have a 1998 Voodoo Strat, with some major playability issues. It has the 9.5 Neck with Medium Jumbo frets. It completely dies on 1.5 - 2 octave bends below 13th fret as well as it just seems hard to play compared to my other electrics. So, I took it in to my local shop for a tune up. Apparently I've worn the frets so bad in certain areas that they need replaced to accomodate a lower action and better playability. I love this guitar and want to keep it. I'm thinking of having the frets replaced and I am looking for suggestions on the best place and price for having the original neck reconditioned for better playability. I am also considering a new neck from "Warmouth" and wondering if anyone out there has any experience with their equipment. My research leads me to bleieve that a larger neck and frets makes for easier playing and less of a radius makes for better string bending.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this frustrated reentry to my guitar playing.

Al

Hello Krankit212 - I havent purchased anything from Warmouth but have heard nothing but good about them, I too am thinking about getting a new neck from them with the compound radius. It may help solve your problem also. The compound radius is smaller at the headstock (easier for chording) and flattens out towards the body making it easier for bending below the twelfth fret. Good luck...

Thanks Kidmo! I was reading about the Warmouth compound neck last night. I do think that sometime in the future I will need to reapir/refret the original neck so the guitar maintains in collectability & value.

Keep on Pluckin'

Hello Krankit212,

A refret job or a new warmoth neck,
both cost about the same {$350 around here}
A new neck can offer some new and unique
possibilities, at maybe a higher cost.

Best of luck on your choice.

Hey Crankit - I live in Fredericksurg, not too far off. John Warden is a brilliant guitar tech and lives up in your neck of the woods. I'd give you his phone number but my wife threw out my personal phonebook that had his number. He should be in the directory though I'd imagine.
