I agree with tbazzone, the special is a lot brighter, a lot
more highs, the SRV sounds a lot more balanced IMO.

In the youtube video I had my tone button on 8-9 on both guitars.

In this sound sample I put it both to the maximum (also the gain) so its a fair comparison :

can you tell me which one is the SRV ? the one in the beginning of the sample or the one starting at about 50% ?

1st one is the SRV

2nd one is the SRV ... and you had 50% chance to guess right :)
and no, I am not bullshitting you...really ...

pao ferro is really more maple then rosewood trust me ;)

I was playing with low E muted...so maybe true i dont know

I'm just messin with you, they both sound great tone wise.
I'm surprised that both guitar's brightness completely reversed
with the tone knobs maxed

if I listen good to the sample I think the 2nd one (SRV) sounds a little clearer also compared to the 1st one being a little muddy. But again, minimal difference, not worth writing home about.
Still the sound also a mini little ietsie pietsie more balanced on the SRV.

That being said, I don't believe the story's that the texas specials in an american special are not the same as the texas specials from the custom shop or in the SRV.
They will just sound different in different guitars but in the same guitar with same setup it will be ... the same :) The electronics is a different story...

I was listen really long and focused to hear/find a difference lol.
Now I am doing the same for texas specials vs fralin vintage hot, listened for 1 hour to samples I found on a website, I don't hear any difference... at all.. none ... bananas...
I started another thread about it :

You have good ears, what do you think ?

That doesn't help at all :)

Anyway, I kinda think of pau ferro as the bright sound as maple with the look of rosewood...

In your video it was easy to tell the two apart by sound alone. The PF makes different tones. The maple sounded a bit hotter. Your dropbox comparison sounded very similar to me however.

Yes not a big difference but I can hear it and the special is a bit brighter. I can hear it every time. They both sound good. The p/u are the same. But every guitar sounds alittle different.
