Hello,

I need some help to identify this Strat which should date from early eighties.
It seems to be built from different pieces. I am also puzzled by the sticker on the neck with
only one patent....

Any clue ?

the decal is not correct for that head stock. not to mention the placement is off.
if its fender its not all origional, but to know it it is a refinish we will need more detailed photos. neck heel, neck pocket, body cavity's, back of head stock and underside of the pick guard. I say run......

As phony as a seven-dollar bill.

Thanks guys !

I have added a picture from the back and from the pickups.
The guy who wants to sell it told me he bought it in 86 in a shop.
He said it sounds great. I had the impression it was a 82 or 86 RI with
another neck. May be it has been built from original pieces.

The trem backplate is wrong (no offset middle screws), the logo is WELL misaligned and wrong, for the headstock, which is 60's style the string trees are all wrong and it just doesn't look right

Agreed - nothing seems right on this one. Granted the 1982 Strats (the "Smith Strats") had that large decal on a smaller (but not quite properly-shaped) headstock, but they were put under the finish and the serial number was on the front of the headstock.

Some quick reasons why this isn't a "Smith" Strat - decal placement (and being applied over the finish), headstock shape, tuners (1982s used the "F" tuners, not the Kluson-style), pickups have staggered-height polepieces instead of flat ones, the pickguard and the back plate should both be 3-ply black or 3-ply white (Fender didn't mix-and-match these; natural finish got black plastic and most other finishes got white plastic), and the neck plate missing.

It looks like someone was trying to fake up a 1982 "Smith" Strat since those have been going up in price lately.

thanks for the messages.

It is a very strange mix of everything without trace of Fender at a single place ?!!
Looks really fake, but old. I have the feeling that the nut is a bone nut ...
Could it be a MIJ strat or a modifaction based on a RI strat from the eighties ?

That Strat looks familiar...

I got it! Pretty sure it's the Strat George Washington played while charging into battle during the revolution.......

Haha jokes aside that is a pretty interesting fake

On the flip side of that, you are right it does look pretty old, possibly Schrecter/Boogie Bodies/Charvel era.
