Man. Don't you just hate it when the perfect forum thread gets off track.
Bummer

Back on track.

For me and many other posters on this thread, the Fender wood is key.
If the guitar sustains the Fender wood neck and the Fender wood body, then it's a Fender! RIGHT :!: :!: :!:
Easy line for me and others to draw. I agree whole heartedly :o

To the OP's thread:
When does a Fender Stratocaster lose it's nationality and become a non-Fender :?: :?: :?:
When you take a true Fender Strat and remove the Fender wood neck or Fender wood body. RIGHT?

Like removing a Plymouth's frame & body = no more Plymouth.
But, keep the Plymouth's frame & body, you still have a Plymouth.
Maybe change the engine, transmission, tires, interior, paint, etc.,
but the Plymouth is still there and identifiable.

What is a Fender guitar playin' musician WITHOUT his girlfriend :?: :?: :?:

Toppscore 8)

YES EXACTLY! We're back to it's the lumber man!!!!

Stratocasters are no longer Stratocasters at the end of Who concerts. Also the amplifiers are usually no longer amplifiers, either.

My guitar teacher told me he was at the Who concert at the Fillmore East when the building next door caught fire. He said no one in the audience or the band knew about the fire, and when a policeman went running on stage, Pete Townsend jumped up in the air and drop kicked him in the jaw, sending him flying backward off the stage.

Fortunately, everyone evacuated safely once they knew what was happening.

To the OP.
Any conclusion about Strats not being Strats?

My line is keeping the wood: Neck Body Fretboard together. All else can change.

What is anyone else's conclusion(s)?

A Strat is either a USA made alder or ash body with either a vintage or modern or Floyd Rose vibrato and tuners, any common Fender pickup and wiring config, and either a maple/ebony, maple, or rosewood neck with any Fender brand head-stock style, plus anything from the Custom Shop, etc.

Everything else that looks like a Fender via the distinct strat style body but is not a Fender brand USA Stratocaster is a strat style guitar or fake if it's a fake.

I'm really diggin' on a Fender black/maple Hwy One SSS Strat with Deluxe Locking F Tuners and 8-gauge nickle plated Super Bullets, Nut Sauce, and various picks via a Zoom G9.2tt, it really captures the Hendrix/Blackmore/Summers 60's/70's/80's/90's/00's-metal Strat type stuff. It's consuming most of my playing time these days. A light, precise and seasoned black Hwy 1 SSS w/ a maple neck and alder body and deluxe locking tuners is the epitome of a Strat if you ask me.

RCB.
We are starting with a Fender Factory Stratocaster.
Question: When do modifications change the guitar so that you cannot call it a Strat.
I feel if either the body or neck is replaced, it becomes a Partscaster.

You are referring to the original question. I answered a subsequent question.

Here's the question I answered:

"What is anyone else's conclusion(s)?"

My conclusion is: "A Strat is..." etc., etc.. By default then, anything less or more than a factory Strat it's not a Strat anymore.

I like my answer better...When I say it isn't. With the answer above, using strings other than Fender whichever gauge comes with that particular model makes it not a Strat anymore.

But But But But are not you being a bit strict?
What about changing the strings?
What about replacing a bad pickup?
What about changing to a brass nut?
Adding a string tree?
Changing to Schaller strap buttons?
Replacing a lost/broken control knob?
Losing the Hat-Tip on the five way switch?

OK. I will leave you with your idea. Seems that there should be some flexability.

But, you are at one end of the extreme (zero changes at all)
and some of us are at the other end extreme (everything can change but the wood).

Good to have lines drawn.
This way, EVERYBODY IS WITH US or EVERYBODY IS AGAINST US or EVERYBODY IS IN-BETWEEN
