It looks to be a legit 40th Ann Strat neck and Plate, nothing else about the guitar is Am Std at all. The body is not an Am Std, could be a MIM or Japanese, or aftermarket. The bridge is not Am Std, looks like Squier or aftermarket saddles, and a early 60s style pick guard, which is not Am Std either, could be aftermarket also. If the seller claimed an all-original 40th Ann Strat, he lied, maybe he didn't know, but still.

From what I can tell it looks like the body, the bridge, pick guard, all the pickups and all the plastic parts have been replaced.

Am. Std. pickups had flush magnets during this period. Also the all the plastic, to include the pick guard would be white. Fender used a two point bridge in '94.

The neck, neck plate, and tuning keys are Fender.

I agree with the micro tilt whole missing, but the final nail in the coffin on the body will be the pickup routes. If you take the guitar apart you should be able to see what aftermarket body they used. The two big names are Wormouth and Allparts. I would say that this was someone's project guitar.

In the end the most important thing is that you are happy.

I had a similar thing happen to me, but I knew what I was looking at, so the price was reduced. I went to a music store and checked out an ubber relic '79 Strat. It has been stripped of its paint and refinished clear, but had worn down to the exposed wood. The neck needed new frets and the owner must have gigged every day, because the finish on the neck was all beat to hell. I had the store take apart the guitar and wouldn't you know it the electronics had been replaced and the pickups were Van Zandts.

Armed with some knowledge the store took off over $200 dollars. I had the guitar worked on and it's wonderful.

The moral of story? Investigate before you buy, but don't turn away a perfectly good guitar because it's not all original.
