Only on the down stroke but not on the up stroke? What could cause this? Something in the trem?

Check the saddle screws.

Cheers,
Robin

Usually hitting the string too hard does this on the low E. If i hit a low E open hard the string vibrates in a wider plane and buzzes. The fact that it's not happening on an upstroke tends to reinforce this idea, your downstroke is usually much stronger than your upstroke.

Also will tend to happen more with lighter strings and if there's not enough relief in the fretboard.

Thanks! I pulled off the e string and releveled the saddle and it still buzzed. I reset the intonation and it went away. :P

Have you reset and checked the intonation?
I had the same problem, recently.
One suggestion is that the nut is cut incorrectly.
Another is that the strings are not the correct size
for the nut or the factory original spec.
Another is that the neck is in a slight "back arc".
Another is the wrong strings create a different amount of tensiion
that is not good for the guitar, tremolo or bridge or nut.

Hope this infor helps. Toppscore :)

The neck was releaved so I tightened it up a bit. I restrung it with Super Slinkies and re intonated and it buzzs worse! I guess if it's set up for heavy strings including the nut and I put light strings on it it's going to buzz? The guitar is set up for heavies.

If the springs on the ajustment screws are weak, will this cause a buzz?

The lighter strings pull the neck less than the heavier strings.
You would have to loosen the neck more (trussrod). Don´t overdo it. Just a quarter/half turn to the left - looking on the screw (turn it anti clockwise).
Check the nut by simply fretting all strings at the 1st or 2nd fret. If it still buzzes it is the neck (that doesn´t mean the nut is ok).
You would have to correct the bridge as well, screw out the trem claw a few turns - the bridge will come up and the lighter strings will pull the bridge (making the strings go higher over the frets).
Do the trem claw thing before changing the trussrod.

Cheers,
Robin

+1, Robin.
I forgot to add the truss rod.
I tend to go lighter or original spec, never heavier.
Lighter has on occasion caused a problem
and that problem can come from many directions.

Oh well I went to re setup the whole thing from scratch and broke the b string so I finished setting up the trem and the whole thing with Ernie ball skinny top and heavy bottom strings and the buzz is gone! The neck adjustment was fine and I'm less then 3/32 at the 21 fret with around 8 - 10 thousands concave at the 8th fret. Sounds killer! it amazes me the sustain this CS has without even being plugged in.

I was going to remove the extra trem springs and try it with the lights but Since I broke one, it can wait awhile. :)

Again, thanks for the tips!
