no-not that kind of pot

in my quest to learn more- i need help with the following. i have a 2009 mim strat with fender scn pickups in them. i notice some talk about replacing the pots too. what would be the advantage of this? i believe my guitar has 250k pots, but would there be an advantage to changing them out?

also do they make different tone and volume pots- and are there any recommendations?

thanks in advance for the education

I also have an 09 MIM Standard with SCNs. Your pots are probably CTS - good pots. 250K pots work fine with them and are the value used on the old American Deluxes with SCNs.

the if the pots you have are CTS then there is really no reason to change them. also If you increase the pot value to 500k or 1000k it will make the pickups brighter.

No, you're fine with what you have unless they are "scratchy" sounding when being turned. And then, some contact cleaner will take care of that.

Ah, no.

There are audio taper pots, linear taper pots, reverse log pots, pots with different type resistive material, cheap pots, quality pots (CTS has been the Fender standard since almost the beginning, Bournes pots are very high quality), nickle size pots, quarter size pots, American made pots, foreign made pots, ....... shall I go on?
