hello fellow guitarists,

i've got a problem with my Classic 60's strat. The volume of the middle pu happens to drop out to almost zero quiet often (actually it works only sometimes). There's still some signal coming out but on a very very low level and if you turn down the TONE Control it cuts of completly. I measured the resistance and the pu itself seems to be fine. anybody any idea. thanks in advance. cheers

Open up the guitar and check for a loose connection on the switch. Resolder any that you find.

hi bluesky636,

thanks for your reply. i should've mentioned it but I already did that. I checked the wiring, switch and every solder joint twice.

If you are sure the wiring is solid, then you probably have a bad pickup with an intermittent break.

Howdy!

The terminal used for the middle pickup on you your 5 way switch maybe grounding out on the shielding paint in the control cavity.

Try putting a small piece of electrical tape on the spot just below where the 5 way sits and see if that solves your issue.

@bill
thanks again, i did measure the resistance of the pickup while it was in its faulty state and it looked fine. so i was hoping it is not the pickup itself.
@andy
thanks for the tip. I'll give this a try tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks for your help to both of you! Much appreciated!
