YOU CANNOT POSSIBLY BE SERIOUS. People have been playing rock on Strats since they were invented! Dick Dale, Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, Joe Perry, Billy Corgan, the list goes on and on almost endlessly.

+1

Amen. Heard some guy named Beck, or was it Frusciente, or was it Bachman, or was it Blackmore, or was it Lifeson, or James, or Van Halen, or... oh never mind, I can't think of it. Anyway, there was a guy who tried it once... heard it turned out ok.

Check back into the last 50 years of Rock / Rhythm & Blues / Heavy Metal / Blues / Country and all the other genre's..You will find as many different players in just about every guitar out there....Just on the Fender website, the list of endorsee's covers a wide range of modern music...

I listen to a crapload of different genres, and guess what guitar I seen in just about all of them? The Strat. There's no "limit" or anything on what genres you can play on a guitar... You can play whatever on a Strat. Mostly depends on the player and their fingers. ;)

My opinion is that with guitar strings, pickups, tone controls, finger pick palm action,
in/out of phase controls, push/pull boost controls, all of the 1000s of pedal options,
many amp tone/control/channel options, and all of the various speaker options . . . . .
it is possible to get any tone or sound you want.

Just that a Stratocaster
a Telecaster
a Jaguar
a Gibson
a Gretsch
All have their own unique starting points for tone/sounds.
And amps have their unique starting points for tone/sounds.

Have fun experimenting and spending money

Dunzie, I don't know, I heard some people calling themselves Gibson got hurt pretty badly. And considering the cost and lack of QC for Gibbos, rightly so!

Yes and Gary Moore used to kick some serious butt playing his red strat with rosewood board.

You can play anything on a strat, almost any style of music.

I was at a festival over the weekend and there were lots of rock/heavy bands there with nice full sounds, and I only saw 3 types of Guitars. Strats, Teles and Gibson SG's.

Also every one of the strats and teles went through single coil pickups, so no I think you can play rock through whatever guitar you want to.

There ain't ANYTHING wrong to play on a Strat. I've done classic rock, blues, Country and yes HEAVY METAL on my Strat. All you need is the correct amp settings and a few good pedals.

The choice of weapon is up to you.
A guitar is a guitar, some people sound weak playing a Les Paul through a cranked Marshall stack, some people make a normal Stratocaster sound like a wall of guitars.
There´s no wrong choice if you play it well and make it sound good.

Cheers,
Robin

I agree with Robin...

Is it just wrong to play rock music with a Fender Stratocaster? It's probably wrong trying to play heavy metal with a strat, but I'm not talking about metal stuffs here. I wanted to play some songs like Sweet Child O Mine / November Rain / or some other Slash's songs with my guitar. Maybe what you want to do is really up to you, but I just have seen some people cover the song Sweet Child O Mine with a Strat, and it's actually not bad, but people would just assume "this looks so wrong with a Strat", cz they think the guitar is for blues etc I guess. BTW my guitar model is Fender 1957 Reissue Strat MIJ Since 1993, with Lindy Fralin Blues Special pickups. Is it rockable at all..? Also is there an specific distortion / other pedal I should get that's good for Strat to play some Rock music? My Strat: Image

Playing Rock on a Fender Guitar, MAY BE WRONG :!: :!: :!:
BUT, it's definitely extremely more wrong to play anything
"Rockish, Fenderish or Marshallish" with a Les Paul guitar or Gibson guitar

Rickenbackers are a "step-up"
Gretsch's are a "God-Send" :D
Fenders are "Sent to God"
