Damn, I'm tugging my beard out trying to read the clues and work out who the Doc is.

Meanwhile. There is a nice picture across two pages of the Aloha Strat on page 72 of The Fender Book, by Tony Bacon and Paul Day (Balafon, 1998). No mention of what the significance of that guitar is though. Also, there's a picture of Freddie Tavares on page 7.

Any help?

Brushes with famous guitarists: I had to leap out of the way as Eric Clapton ripped past in a silver Porsche in Piccadilly in London the other week. Sadly, at that speed none of the greatness rubbed off, far as I can tell.

Also, when I was a kid, Pete Townshend closed a door in my face. Now, I don't want any of you taking that thought any further...

When I was a child, I saw Uncle Freddie play steel guitar, and for years I thought it was my other uncle- Hannibal Tavares-- Maui Mayor since passed. I missed my Great Aunt Helen's 100th Birthday in Tulsa in October, but I too am very interested in the Aloha Strat! This is a couple years late, but if anyone knows anything...javascript:emoticon('') Truth is always stranger than fiction..!

Dbj could catch up with the family news by having Brad get him nephiguy's email address. Thus done, veracity will out. Beyond that, apparent sarcasm has no place. Thus said, I wonder that you responded to your own post. Is there something amiss? And how are you doing these days?

Doc

I once sat in Captain Kirk's chair on the Start Trek II set! (Oops, wrong forum.) I once jammed with David Bad Jones!

OK, I'm another relative of Freddie Tavares, crawling out of the woodwork. While my brother has been playing guitar most of his life, back in '08 when Nephiguy asked about the Tavares Strat, I didn't even know who Freddie Tavares was, didn't remember seeing him play at one of our family get-togethers (I was quite young but I remember the lap steel guitar!), couldn't tell a Stratocaster from a Telecaster, and I thought a Mustang was a car.

But, in 2009 that all changed when I started messing around with a Strat copy (after Bad Jones showed me some chords), then bought myself a Squier, and within a year, collected two Fender Strats and a few others. (It's a disease.)

I have all of the guitar playing skills of Leo Fender, you see. (You know he didn't actually play guitar, right?), but I'm a techie at heart, and can appreciate the work Leo and Freddie did to create a legendary instrument.

Anyway, I hope Nephiguy142 will get in touch with us, because I hear some of the relatives (Charmaine, another famous Tavares--at least in Hawaii) may be planning a Tavares reunion in So Cal, and I'd love for us to meet!

Funny how I discovered guitar playing, the Stratocaster, and Freddie Tavares all within such a short time.

Oh, and it goes without saying I'd love to get my hands on an Aloha Strat! Maybe I'll get to look at one of the three that was given to the Tavares family.

So, thanks, Freddie and Leo, for giving the world so much, and thanks Leo for teaching me I don't have to be a good player to appreciate the art and engineering of the Strat!

that is what i love about this particular forum, anyone of us may be chatting with someone who is famous.
now, knowing who they really are, our responses would be bias.
but however i am an will always be curious about alainfrance,
he probably has a collection of instruments totalling 2 million easy.
in which im totally grateful and in total awe whe he exhibits his collection.

now what ever happened to seoloblues i think i spelled it correctly.

im just happy to be part of this forum.

Sealo has had some unfortunate events come up and has sold a good portion of his collection. I think he still has his Monty Pop Strat, a '64 Vibro RI, and a couple other guitars.

nephiguy142- we are cousins. My mother was cousin to Freddie, and the other 12 siblings. If you are interested in tracing the genetics, let me know how to reach you privately.

Didn't John Mayer say in an interview at least once that he spends time in the Fender forums? He never said his user name, I believe ... Hmmm, does that mean then that I might be John Mayer since I also use the Fender forums? Come to think of it, no one has ever seen me and John Mayer in the same place at once ...

I got to sing with Wynonna Judd's band. Sort of. Was working at a gas station about 3am and had the radio cranked up. Singing away and as they came in they started singing too.
