No need to hijack this thread about tone wood, but with all the debate on tone woods, I was of course very interested to see what this would sound like. Unplugged it is very acoustic. Plugged in it sounded like any of my other Strat Plus'!!! Ummmm.... I could not tell any difference anyhow, from any other Plus with Gold Laces!

Hi Jeff: that's interesting. Thanks for the thread.

So, same weight, similar sound - any idea how the original cost compared? I've a feeling we're getting a handle on why these bodies are thin on the ground...

By the way, do you know anything about the production process? They're hollow, right? So were they cast in front and back pieces and joined together, or was it a one-piece hollow casting? If so, how'd that work?

Cheers - C

Hey Mr C. I missed this one. Not sure what you mean by the cost comparison, but as you can imagine the Aluminum Strat Plus' sold for quite a bit more than a standard one. They had a very, limited run around late 1994 through early 1996 — less than 250 total is what Fender is saying.

They are hollow and the bodies are quite interesting. below is a image i found on the web of the bodies. These were also used on the Harley Davidson Custom Shop strats. The company that made these for fender did an amazing job on the seams, so good that some bodies had a simple clear coat on them. seems like there were some of these that were floating around for sale as I have seen one or two on eBay. So I am thinking that Fender did not use all the bodies made and some got out in the open market.

Hi Jeff, thanks for that. I do think the bods look very cool naked. I'd love to get my hands on one, though I'm not holding my breath.

So how much did those violet metal burst Strats cost new, do you happen to know?

Cheers - C
