Take a tape measure into your local guitar store and measure the routing of new American Standard. How difficult could that possibly be? You certainly don't need the neck off to do that.

If you got dimensions from Warmoth, they are correct.

GJ is correct, Warmoth and Stew Mac Strat necks will fit in strat bodies. Just don't try and put a Tele neck on it, most of those won't fit.

There are likely many vendors around the country who cannot afford to support a 'headbanger's ball' all day long without moving merchandise.

The 'shredheads' come in, crank the Marshalls up to '11', make the room impossible to live in, impress not with their chops, and then leave without dropping a dime.

There's a difference between seriously auditioning an instrument and
hangiing out like a mall rat with time on your hands noodling incessant nonsense.

Years ago, one vendor, I frequented obviously tired of it all, actually put up a sign which read:

"No more 'Stairway', No more 'Smoke' "

Oh....i'm not from the States. From where i am if you wanna buy a guitar the shops here will set up for you with an amp and let you try with their fingers on the volume knobs.LOL!!And not to mention they jack up the selling price at a cut-throat price tag....

Guitars on display are the low end korean or some china made stuffs....those that from the US prominent brands are locked in a glass showcase and to view and test you need to approach their sales staff.....its like if you wanna try them you gotta look presentable as though there's a $10k note flashing on your forehead... :sigh:

I buy my stuffs mostly online nowadays straight from the US.....its cheaper. The only issue i have is paying the taxes when it arrives as the post office is miles away... :P

Even in the states, the 'mix' to the practiced eye is obvious. There's a smattering of US built stuff on display. If we limit our discussion to Fender, the Highways and AmStd's predominantly. Many vendors have a CS section which is more carefully controlled. Guitar Center calls it "The Platinum Selection".

I will no longer buy an instrument off the wall unless it is further discounted because I consider them 'used' due to the scenario I illustrated in my previous post. If you inspect them closely they show a great deal of wear.

It has to be out of an unopened carton.

Well said Doc, I feel the exact same way when I look at all the instruments hanging on the wall at my local shop.

Even on GC's wall they tend to put the MIM within arms reach the Am Stds and Dlxs are generally up where you have to ask someone to reach them for you. Same with Epis and Gibsons.
