Recent purchase and could not be happier, its in absolutely great condition and I could not be happier. As you can see by the pic it was extremely well taken care of, Just had it pro setup and the feel of the neck the sound of the lace pickups..just perfect in my opinion. I now know why there is an entire forum section dedicated to fans of the Plus!

There are no Plus reissues for 2012.

This guitar is a mid-to-late 1980s/early 1990s model (circa 198?).

All Pluses are MIA.

It is a E4xxxxx serial number DEFINITELY not a reissue lol..but I will take that as a compliment for the awesome condition it is in..its American Strat Plus the exact year fuzzy as are all strats with an E4 serial number

E4xxxxx=1984

Those serial numbers are decidedly misleading.

The Plus series did not came into surface until 1987!

People more knowledgeble than I will explain the E4xxxxxx serial numbers better than I can it does NOT mean made in 1984 as you would think it implies..only a few models made in 1984 before switch over to Corona so an E4 can be anywhere from 1987-ish..I read this at an really well done website Xhefri ..which I have been reading since I picked up the Strat Plus this Monday with a huge smile I might add..Love the Maple neck..the pickups and everything about it..I am however really curious about the different glosses.sheen of the maple necks if anyone knows whats up with that I would appreciate it thanks!

First off that's a very nice early Strat Plus. Based on the style of Wilkinson nut it would have been made in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 1987 at the earliest (earlier Strat Pluses would have had the "split" style Wilkinson where there was only a single roller for the wound strings). Fender changed the Wilkinson nut style sometime toward the end of 1987. The only way to really date these accurate is to disassemble them and check the date stamps on the neck and body, pot codes, etc.

The story on the "E4" numbers - Fender didn't really use many of them on their 1984 guitars as they mostly used up the "E3" numbers during the two year run of the CBS-era Standards (the 2-knob models) and the Elite Strats. FMIC bought Fender in February 1985; they did't buy the factory but they got all the parts like tuners, strap buttons, pots, etc. from CBS - including the unused headstock decals with "E4" numbers on them. FMIC just decided to use these up when they introduced their new "updated" models - the American Standards and then the Strat Pluses.

I think we can get it down to about a 6-9 month period from the time they started using the 2nd version of the Wilkinson nut (call it late 1987, probably between September and the end of the year - i.e. 3rd or 4th quarter) and it could be as late as mid-1988 - someone once posted a photo of a Strat Plus with an E4 serial number with a neck date of June 1988. That's about as good as we can get; Fender's database of records doesn't start until 1993.

Keep 'em guessing. You only need to open it up for service or for selling it.
If it works right, do not take it apart.
What if it could never be put back together "right" again. Remember Humpty Dumpty :lol:

Man. It just never ceases to amaze me that some know about the production details :o
