Hello to all im new to the forum, so nice to meet you.

I recently got a vintage reissue 62 stratocaster in ice blue colour and told that is rare and limited edition(#V181974).

I wanted to ask if thats true!

Thanks a lot.

Bill.

Ice Blue Metallic has been used on the re-issues but only rarely and sporadically. A pity since it's such a gorgeous color. I'm surprised that Robert Cray didn't specify it as one of the available finishes to be used on his artist sig model.

may be an FSR (factory special run) done for a specific fender dealer. generally when a colour or other feature is changed from the norm and then only stocked in one dealer, rather than all over the world. so sort of limited edition i guess.

It's kind of rare but Ice Blue was a stock color for the AV Series (at least the '62 Strat and the '62 Tele Custom) for a couple of years - I believe the sequence was Sherwood Green (1998-1999), Ice Blue (2000-2001), then Ocean Turquoise (2002-2006 or so). I could have the Ocean Turquoise and Ice Blue reversed, but the Ocean Turquoise ran longer than either the Sherwood Green or the Ice Blue.

You can't confirm AV dates from the serial number but you can email Fender's consumer relations department (consumerrelations@fender.com) and they can verify the date it was shipped out.

Also thanks for jogging my memory - I did have it reversed. the colors for the AVs went Sherwood Green - Ocean Turquoise - Ice Blue. Ice Blue was recently discontinued (maybe after 2010).

There's a Greg Fessler Master Built Ice Blue Esquire that belongs to Sheryl Crow, if my memory serves. Crow herself used that guitar for a couple of songs during the 3rd Crossroads Guitarfest in Bridgeview (IL) two years ago.

Don't forget to mention Taos Turquoise, which is tad lighter than Ocean Turquoise. Taos was used on several Strat Pluses in the late 1980s.

The Taos Claptons were pretty uncommon.

WTF does this have to do with the OP's question?

If your AV62 has a matching blue headstock, then it's a Fender Special Run and it IS quite rare.

Also came with SCN pickups, if memory serves..? Somewhat untrue to an AV62, but ballsy nonetheless!

If the guitar uses SCNs and S1 switching, then it's a Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Stratocaster®. Deluxe Vintage Players were Factory Special Runs made in 2005 and featured 22 jumbo frets and a 9,5"-inch radius as opposed to the regular American Vintage reissues.

The series also included a '57 Stratocaster® and two Telecaster® models, a '52 and a '67, the former having a bound contoured ash body and locking machine heads.
