I bought a 1973 Strat in 1976. Do I have to pull the neck to find out if it is MIA or MIJ?

I'm pretty sure that in 1973 they were only made the US.

It was made in the US. They all were at that time. I would check the neck anyway. I have a 72 Strat that I got in 73. I always thought it was 73. Surprise surprise. Enjoy it.

If it was bought in 1976 by you, it's 90% safe to say it was made in USA. IF you bought it used, pop the strings, unbolt the neck, & check out the date stamp. Up to the 70's, they used a BIG green stamp on the end of the neck. There are quite a bit of " vintage" Strat parts available that are as original as Squier, MIM, MIC, & MIJ can make 'em.

I want to thank the gentleman who responded to my post about if my '73 strat was made in the USA or not. I took off the neck and it is stamped
22 FEBURARY 1973 which means it was mad in rhe USA. Thanks again.

Can you point us to some pictures of this '73? The "22" in that date code means it's a Strat, not that it was made on the 22nd day of the month.

If you look at the codes on the bottom of the pickups and potentiometers, you can tell when those were made --- tell us the numbers you find and we'll decode them for you.

How is the guitar?

The only Japanese strats back then were copies that weren't Fenders!

I will check on the back of the pick-ups. This guit is natural in finish. It has the maple neck with the 3 position pick up selector that you can hang up between settings. Plays like a dream and is in pristene condition. I really appreciate your interest. I will try to post a picture of "Blondie" soon.
Thanks, Bhunt

I like old strats. I like mid-'70s ones in particular, because I bought my first strat in 1976 and still have it.
