I've been looking online at the prices on an Eric Clapton strat and they all seem to be $1529 (or so), except for one place that I've never heard of that has it at $1499. I'd rather not buy one online unless the price and the return policy are both grade-A, but if all the stores have it at the same price, I guess I should just order one through my nearest Guitar Center in case I have issues. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Hello Lafromla,

When I purchase an instrument it's
a hands on deal for me. I don't consider
lowest price as the deal maker. I'm fortunate
to be in the proximity of many music stores.

Cheers.

I have bought a few guitars from dealers that are not anywhere near me, but they are from dealers I trust.
Personally I would not buy a guitar from GC. I would find another local dealer.

I really like Huber and Breeze out of Michigan. They have a website. Great group of people!

Hi Chet, I'm curious about you not recommending purchasing from GC. Is it employee related or product related or something else?
Thanks.

I have to say that when I bought my JV strat from GC, the guy that helped me was awesome. He shopped the best internet price for me and matched it and still took 10% off for the coupon I had. Walked me through 4 or 5 other strats as well before I decided on the JV. Only prob is that GC is 50 miles from my house, which really wasn't an issue when I worked 42 mi from home, so it was just a lunch trip down the road, but now I found a job 15 min from home, so its a little too far to drive for no other reason. I just found an authorized dealer close to my house that is a fender dealer and will order the EC strat for me, but at no special price, $1529, like everyone else.

Unfortunate that the 'juice was not worth the squeeze' to see what the first salesperson could do for you. Often, a repeat customer has an advantage. You are comparing different apples, though. The JV (Jimmy Vaughn, I trust), is an MIM instrument, and these guys may have more wiggle room than with the Clapton which is MIA. If you haven't moved forward with the new dealer I would call GC, speak to your salesperson, and see what he can do for you. Then you can make the new guy an offer, perhaps he won't refuse, or continue doing business with GC regardless.

Curious to know what you got yours for so I have an idea if I am getting a decent price or not. You can Pm me if you dont want to broadcast the specifics.
