It probably has more to do with the Sambora Strats being the topic thus others have joined in the conversation, since there is interest...
I would say they are a very limited appeal since as garishly adorned the neck is, there is no mistaken what you are playing as far as a signature strat.

For me there are mechanical issues, not the least of which the locking nut and trem system, neck strength issues from two holes drilled thru the neck at the weakest point of the neck is also not a good thing. Many strat necks have broken at that point, irregardless of model...

Could it simply be that we've talked out every other Strat related subject?

You're right Ceri - probably a bit of that going on.

Also we have had 2 members talking about Samboras from opposite ends of the spectrum - one member wound up buying the Sambora that Ritchie gave to Les Paul from the Les Paul estate auction, and another member has kind of a dodgy supposedly Sambora neck and was asking about using a Chinese knock-off as a doner for parts for said neck.

Wow - I missed that. That's pretty cool on several levels.

Clicketty-click... Ah-ha, was this the thread?

No replies to bajasdogs. Maybe I'll bump it and ask the question we all secretly want answered - how much did he pay for Les Paul's Sambora Strat?

Cheers - C

Ceri - sorry, bajasdogs posted another thread when he received it (and he also bought an early-mid 80s LP Custom from the sale) and I should have linked to it.

Here is the other thread:

Ah, OK. Oh well, I just bumped the other thread anyhow. Seems bajasdogs hasn't answered the crucial questions on either, so we'll see if he feels like talking more.

...And, Jiminy Cricket, he bought the white Paul-Sambora LP too! Wow, what a day's impulse buying that was! :D

Cheers - C

EDIT: oh no he didn't, he just posted a picture of the white LP. Read more carefully, Ceri. Never mind, one out of two is still quite neat.

Huh, that’s odd, I’ve never seen that. I've had a Floyd on one of my strats since 1990 (and heavily gigged with for a while) and the thing is still solid, never had a problem with the headstock falling off. Then after I realized I’m not Eddie Van Halen and wasn’t getting anywhere I went into moding and repairing guitars at a local shop for about 10 years and never saw that happen during that time either. On the other hand, they can make a good sounding Strat sound like complete $@!& sometimes.

I will never buy a Fender with "stars" inlay. It just plain hideous and fugly... :? I just simply had to say that.... But of course, different strokes.

The stars are there to represent the feeling you get when your tall $@! bassist whops you in the back of the head with his headstock
or does that only happen to me? :?

LOL!!! You guys are pretty funny. I just got the nerve to tune up the Sambora and it screams! Man now I just need a battery to test it out to it's full potential! The "White Les Paul" is from his Sambora collection and is a 1988 Custom duplicate of the famous 88' Les Paul that was given to Sambora on his birthday with the same hand wound pickups. It's the same as the one used for the recording of New Jersy. It looks mint sitting in the case but is heavily reliced. I think Les Really liked that guitar! $27,000.00 out the door for the pair! And yes it was an Impulse but I spent less then I planed as I really wanted Les's 61 SG Les Paul Custom. I think it sold for $46,000.00

I didn't know this was the Sambora Les Paul Duplicate but it was a pleasent surprise! I just wanted a plain white custom.

I think I'll paint the sambora red, white and blue Buck Owens style. ;O)

Very weird that these have popped up so much lately as I have been looking for one! And I haven't posted anything about it.

Hi again bajasdogs: so I was reading it right the first time after all - you did buy both guitars? And all just because you set out wanting a white guitar? Well, I gotta say: I like a guy who knows what he wants and goes about getting it, cost be damned.

Care to post us a photo of you with the guitars together? My, that would be fine to see.

Cheers - C
