I bought a used Stratocaster off ebay. When it arrived it needed to be cleaned up, but it wasn't bad and I got it fairly cheap with the intention of doing some modifications to it. Right off the bat the B string would not stay in tune. After playing for a while the B would be flat, or sharp, after a while. There is no real rhyme or reason as to wheather it will go flat or sharp. I thought it might be old strings, so I put on new strings. (I've put on three sets so far) When I changed the strings I put lots of, then gobs of, and then oodles of grapite on the nut. It made no difference. So I came to the, at the time, brilliant conclusion that the tuning machine for the B string had gone bad. Well I bought new tuning machines and installed them. The B string still goes flat or sharp after playing a while, and it doesn't require using the whammy bar to make it go out of tune. I've screwed the bridge down tighter and that has made no difference. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this? I'm not playing aggressivley. It's getting a little old having to tune the B string, and only the B string, after a couple songs. Thanks for your help!

Possibilities include: Burr on the nut, burr on the saddle, burr on the string tree if there is one for that string.

Thank you. I'll get a small file and see what I can do. I'll take it slow and not over do it!
