What's the best strat I can get for under 500$? I'll be using it for alt rock - mostly Switchfoot and Pink Floyd style stuff. I don't mind buying models not in production any more, but I'd prefer one that's brightly colored! If you have any recommendations for me, I'd appreciate it!

The Standard Strats are pretty sweet, mine is Lake Placid Blue with a maple neck that plays so smoothly.

Used, you might still be able to snag a Highway One for under 500, those are great value, imo the best in the entire range. They came in various colors throughout the years.

True. MIJ e series strats are beautiful guitars built like tanks. I prefer frets and fingerboard radius of the newer models more though.

Still both killer axes!

This.

Also, like the others said, don't be afraid to shop around for a second-hand guitar like those. You could find a treasure of an axe...

Check out the Standard HSS if you're using it for that style of music. Or, maybe even better, the Blacktop HH series. Both run about $500 new but play pretty great.

This. With Seymour Duncan Antiquities, my '80s "62RI" blows my American Standard out of the water.

i agree. i have the same guitar-same color-maple neck. it plays unbeleviably well. the only changes i made were locking tuners, a pearloid pickguard, and a set of scn pups that i got a great deal on. i love it.

Same could be said for ANY model of guitar, really. CV series are pretty great.
