All of this information can be found on the Fender website.

HSS = A pickup configuration. 1 Humbucker, 2 Single-coils.

FSR = Factory Special Run; these are usually limited edition guitars which are sold for a limited time. These have special finishes and other features which aren't found on the "main" lines of guitars/basses available. Also sometimes these are retailer-specific, meaning they can only be found through a certain store, like Musician's Friend.

Deluxe/Select/etc. = Just different lines of guitars. Every line that Fender and Squier have will have instruments which share similar features and themes... You can find out what specific lines have what by asking us here or checking out the spec pages on the Fender product pages.

Thanks for the quick reply! If that information is on the Fender webpage I haven't been able to find it. I'm still searching for which models are made in USA/Mexico/China.

Most Squiers are made in either China or Indonesia. Most guitars/basses that are around $1,000 and up are MIA, although some are still MIM like the Classic Player Jags and such. Usually if it's MIA, it'll say so somewhere in the product description.

This should help:
1. Goto the top of the page and highlight, "Products."
2. Go over to, "Electric Guitars."
3. Go to, "Stratocasters."

This should give you all the basic differences with guitars.

I hope this helps.

The other posts give you some pretty good rules of thumb; I'll go ahead and do some of the work for you:

Fender-branded instruments
USA: American Deluxe, American Special, American Standard, American Vintage, Highway 1, Vintage Hot Rod, Select, and some Artist Signature

MIM: Blacktop, Classic, Classic Player, Deluxe, Road Worn, Standard, Roland V guitars, some Artist Signature

China: Modern Player

Squier-branded instruments

These can be made in China or indonesia

For the Artist Series - look for the price and follow the rule of thumb (list $1,000-ish meand MIM, list $1,500 or higher USA); I'm not sure if there are any MIJ Artist Sigs right now. I also don't think that there are any other MIJ or MIK Strats being imported at this time.

EDIT for spelling - it's "Squier", not "Squire"

I always thought the JA-90s were Korean; I didn't realize they were made in Indonesia. I was only going through the Strats for the OP; right now there aren't any Asian-built Fender-branded Strats sold in the US market other than the Chinese Modern Players. The Squier brand is pretty much Indonesian and Chinese these days.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for... I just wanted to make sure my $ was going for an American made guitar.
