I just saw the video from their free Hyde Park concert in June 1969.

The sound quality is marginal at times, and in his auto-bio, Eric admits to not being into the whole thing from the start...but worth watching.

Meanwhile, there he is, playing a guitar with an Telecaster body and a very well-worn Strat neck.

Anybody got more info on this???

Not sure what the story is or about the telecaster body but I'm pretty sure the neck ended up on 'Brownie'.
Mr Chromey will know for sure!

I caught that movie on VH1 a few months ago. I really enjoyed it. I read somewhere that Clapton built that Tele to have something that no one else had. I really like the tones he had using the middle and bridge pickups.

As far as I know it's a stock bound Tele with a Strat neck.

Yes that is the neck from Brownie...Clapton had already purchased brownie in 66 or 67 and he did want something different, but really liked the V neck of brownie.

I remember reading about this Teleostratocaster a few years go and then found a video on YouTube on it. It was inspiring so I decided that if Clapton did that why not go the other way and make a Stratotelecaster. I did the whole build here, step by step, on the Fender Forum, as some of you may remember. I do not have the link right now, but I put a 62 Telecaster neck on a black 1990 Strat body with custom wiring. It was quite tricky due to the Tele neck being square on the end and the Strat neck being more rounded. So it required squaring out the mouse ears on the body. Made me wonder if Clapton had to do anything to the Tele body? Wish I had the link right off. It was called "Odd Ducks and Old Farts" if I remember right. Wish I had my laptop right now as I have the link bookmarked. It was a type of tribute to the Clapton build.

Found it: http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=51750

I'm a big fan of the '62 Tele Custom (owned a MIJ back in the late '80s) and mapled necks.

Since the early '90s I petiotioned Fender to make an Andy Summers Tele (Bound Tele body with maple neck), but got tired of waiting and made my own.

Good luck! If you end up doing this, let me know how it all works out and if there is any problem attaching the Strat neck (round neck joint ) to a Tele body (square neck joint).

I've never done it, but from what I've read there aren't any issues with putting the Strat neck on the Tele body - there will just be some gaps on the corners where the Strat neck is round but the Tele body pocket is more square.

Going the other way I believe you have to sand down the square edges of the Tele neck to make it fit in the Strat's round neck pocket.

I recently put a Tele neck on a 60th Anniversary Strat body.

It required no routing of the body and no sanding of the Tele neck. The only work involved was on the Strat pickguard, which had to be straightened out a bit by sanding so that the flatter Tele neck would fit into it. Once I had contoured the pickguard and slipped the neck in, the neck screw holes were dead on and I just had to tighten it up and she was good to go.

Good deal - glad to see that the modern components (Standard Tele neck, Standard Strat body) go together with only minimal work on the plastic pieces. I didn't realize the neck pockets were really cut for a Tele neck, but that makes sense - any tiny gaps would be covered up by the Strat pickguard (and also by the 22nd fret overhang on 22-fret necks) these days. I posted what I had read about neck transplants many years ago - I guess it might be true for vintage-style instruments (like say putting an AV '52 Tele neck on an AV '62 Strat) or it might not; it could have just been an old repairman's tale so to speak.

By the way - both the Strat and that Tele you posted in the other thread look really nice with their transplanted necks.

In the 70's Fender made a tele with a strat headstock. It was mid 70's. That was the first Fender I owned.

Yeppers, they were made between 1972 to 1982 and were called a Deluxe Telecaster. They were similar to the Telecaster except has two humbucking pickups, Stratocaster style neck and large headstock, 6-piece bridge, featured a back contoured like a Stratcoaster, black pickguard, 3-way switch, four knobs, available in Blonde, Sunburst, Olympic White, Black, Walnut, Antigua, or Natural finishes.

Wow.

Now I remember seeing a picture like this in a Fender catalog from about 1974...twin humbuckers, four knobs, and the Strat neck.

Thanks for the memories.

Xherfri...Can you confirm the history of the neck on Clapton's hybrid?

Here is a few pictures of Clapton playing the 62 body with the Strat neck while in Blind Faith. Man this album brings back some memories. Some of these picts are from 1969 era.
