Hey all-
Newbie to the Forum. I just purchased a 2009 am. stnrd. It is new, as it hung at a local store for 3 years. Gorgeous guitar in candy cola. As I did my usual new guitar string change/polish, I notice a 2 inch crack under the finish, right behind the heel, where the back plate bolts on, like too much string tension at the facory. Either way, the store is unsettled on what to do. I want to send it to Corona, and get a new body. This should not have left the Factory. Anyone hav experience w/ this?
thanks

Hi sroberts5150, welcome to the Forum.

Far as what to do is concerned, the good news is that your Fender warranty is valid from the date of purchase, not the date of manufacture. So if you recently bought the guitar new from a shop then you are completely covered and can have it replaced if that is what you wish. Whether you simply get a replacement guitar or just a new body is up for discussion between you, the store and their Fender rep. But so long as the crack is in the wood then you are protected (finish blemishes are excluded under the terms of the warranty).

Of course, if you end up getting a whole new guitar then it probably won't be a 2009 since those will be out of stock. How you feel about that might come into the discussion - or not, depending how Fender choose to address the issue.

Whatever: taking it back to the shop is the first thing you have to do.

Cheers - C
