All of us several times. It really works until you bend the string. Most of the time you can bring the strings back to perfect pitch by pulling up the trem (backwards).

Well, I've only been playing guitar for 35 years. It's understandable that I've never heard this before.

Yeah - 48 years of playing for me. I'm so glad I gave up whacking my whammy about 40 years ago. :shock:

I've been a screw-it-down, five-spring guy for decades.

Forty-seven years since I began playing, to the month. I prefer my trems locked down. Or choose one of my hardtails when tuning consistency is critical.

This worked beautifully for me. Trem floats with lots of travel both ways and stays in tune. I went nuts for the first year I had my Strat and was despairing of blocking the trem to keep it in tune. Don't have to now :D

Cool trick. I just deck my 6 point tremolo's. My 2 point tremolo's I do not have to, they float without going out of tune.
