Would you like a unicorn and a puppy too?

change it so one tone controls all pups. disconnect the other and leave it. most players turn the tone to ten and never touch it. there are many different tones between 1 and 10. even the volume can control the tone. most are too lazy to turn the knobs while they play.

Hey Forum.

On all my strats I have to get the second tone knob wired to the bridge pickup.
(A common strat modification)

On all 4 guitars I have tone on the bridge pickup, because I got them wired that way.
On 2 of my strats though I don't have tone control for the middle pickup.

Does a stock strat have middle pickup tone control?
I know for a fact a stock strat doesn't have tone on the bridge pickup.

I want the first tone knob to do the neck, neck and middle, and middle.
The second tone knob should do the middle and bridge, and bridge pickups.

Strats are weird guitars!

Not necessarily true - vintage wiring is for one tone for the neck and one for the middle. I believe the MIM Standards are also wired vintage-style. The Eric Johnson singatures come stock with the wiring you have on the modded Strats - tone for the neck and tone for the bridge.

Modern USA Strat wiring is to have a tone for the neck and a tone for the middle and the bridge.

I had a John Suhr strat-style for a while; he had his set up with the upper tone control working for postions 2-5 on the 4-way switch and the other tone control working for position 1 (bridge pickup) only. I believe he has said he had to use a superswitch (like used on HSS guitars that auto-split the humbucker in position 2) to achieve this. That might be as close as you could get to the wiring you want.

I'm not lazy, but the only control I use while I play is the volume (yes, count me as one of the players that leaves the tones at 10). I use the volume control a lot.

The suggestion to change your guitar to having a master tone is a good one. You could then use that freed up control as something else: a pickup blender or a mid-range control or ....

That's exactly what I have on my Strats! I installed kits that give me volume, master tone and a blender control that blends neck and bridge pups. I'm a bit surprised that Fender doesn't offer it on one model or another.
