Thanks Mike. Sometimes questions inspire me to google images and notice details I've overlooked. I had never noticed how crudely Jimi's Tele heel had been reshaped until this image search, when I was specifically wondering which approach they used and found a clear shot of the neck joint.

I am sure some of the regulars saw the threat where these was built. I showed in detail how to prepare the body to receive a Tele neck. Man this guitar played sweet BTW....

Why not a customized Strat Plus wired like an Ultra with an LSR-equipped Tele Plus Deluxe neck?

BTW the neck pickup looks like a SD JB Jr. :P
