After months of exhaustive research, consultations with experts, various scientific tests and measurements, vibration analysis equipment, sound reproduction theories, and a thorough search of the patent office....... well, OK, none of that happened.
I actually decided to keep it pure and simple so as not to confuse anyone with some mysterious, unnamed, non-existent "laws" of physics. I discovered this method because of the necessity of having to leave the back plate off, due to a bullet end high-E string.

But this is proof positive, beyond any doubt, that you can indeed get sound from the trem springs in a Strat, and that the sound is picked up by the guitar pickup. The description under the video explains the rest.

This is a good test to see if your mind will allow you to hear the reverb sound produced by the springs. If you can't hear it in this video, that might explain why you can't hear the differences between tone woods also. The fact that trem springs produce a sound can't be denied by anyone with reasonably decent hearing. That is, anyone who isn't just plain obstinate.

Apparently, the sound produced by the springs is well known, others refer to it as "noise". Here are just a couple of videos demonstrating "cures" that prevent/reduce sound from the springs.

Years ago I saw a guitar that actually had a pickup mounted behind the tremolo springs. It actually worked somewhat but it was nothing like a standard tremolo system.

I wonder if it was specifically to better pickup the sound from the springs. :?: I like the sound that the springs add. This might be part of the reason that I prefer a decked Tremolo over a hard tail Strat. IIRC, Clapton preferred the sound of a decked bridge over a hard tail also.
