Hello everyone, this is my first post here! And I need your help to decide!
I have been playing my Squier Bullet Strat for some time, but since I'm now much better player than when I bought my first electric guitar,I feel that I need something better. My budget lets me decide between one of these two : Squier Classic Vibe or MIM Standard.
Which on would you choose and why?

P.S. I tried them both and I like them both. It's just that some people say CV is better, some say MIM is better...and I just want to hear more opinions before I buy one!
Thanks!

hmmmm..tough call. I am NO expert but, I would guess that the MIM is probably made a bit better. I say, that being the case, spent a bit more for a better made product now and down the road you can always modify it to get that CV sound if you so desire. Modding can be quite fun as well.
Just my .02¢

I've never played the Classic Vibe because I'm turned off by the glossy neck (at least on the Tele model). Some people on this board (and others) really like the Classic Vibe series. I vote for the MIM because I like more of a satin finish.

That is a tough one. I think quility they are about the same but resale value might be alittle better in the mim.

I would go with the MIM. But I don't care for the Classic Vibe Strats. The Classic Vibe Tele is a different story, but if we're talking strats, MIM all the way.

from what ive seen the CV squiers are very very nearly as good as a MIM std. if youve tried them, pick the one you like best. a guitar with 'fender' on the headstock will always hold its value better than a squier. however standard strats and teles dont really float my boat, wherever they're made, so id be quite tempted by the CV series. have you looked second hand ? generally a guityar is worth 50-70% of what it originally cost, so you could get something better for the same cash second hand.

It depends on what you want to spend on the guitar. I think the Classic Bibe is a better bang for your buck. If you want Fender on the headstock, go for the Fender Standard. When I owned my CV 60 I did not have to change any electronics. I thought it sounded better than the MIM Fender Standard. The quality was about the same.

Just know the CV is produced in China and the Fender Standard is produced in Mexico...where do you want your money to go?

You're gonna get nicer Body wood and pickups in the CV compared to the Standard. I would say that actually CVs probably have better resale value too. I think with the CVs you just get an overall better product in most aspects, however the Standard has way better pots and switch. But look at the flame on my Cv 50s neck. You won't find this in a MIM standard.

FWIW MIM standard comes in 6 colors, CV series only 2 colors. For just a little bit more money, you could get a Lonestar Strat or a Roadhouse Strat with vastly upgraded pickups. Good value IMO.

I've had my MIM Standard for 4 years now & I have no complaints at all. I've also heard good things about the CV. TBH I don't think you can go wrong either way. Try them out first. good luck.

Yogi that neck is a thing of beauty!!!
These days I'm really busy but in a few days I'll have time to try them again in my local music store, will keep you updated.
For now it seems like an even battle between these two guitars.

I tried both and ended up with the 60's CV strat. For me I liked the pickups and neck better and honestly I couldn't justify spending the extra cash on the MiM compared to the CV. I genuinely believe the CV is unbelievable for the money.

But I think the best way to go is try them both out and see which one you like better.

Be sure to check out the Vintage Modified Series by Squier as well as the Modern Player Series by Fender. The Squier VM's are certainly a huge step up from Squier quality from just a few years ago. Great guitars with unique sounds.

I own a Fender American Special HSS strat, a MIM Standard strat, a Squier CV 60's and a Squier Joe Trohman Signature Tele. Out of those guitars, I play my MIM the least.

The CV 60's Neck and Middle Pickups are really special pickups too. The bridge is a bit tinny and thin and maybe even too hot, but those neck and middle pickups might even be more favorite to me than the Texas Specials in my American Special HSS.

I find that the build quality on my CV 60's is at least as good if not better than my MIM. Of course the neck is thinner than the MIM standard neck will be. But the vintage tuners on the CV stay in tune better than on any of my other guitars.

I have told a lot of people that I believe that the CV Squiers might be the best guitar value on the market. As long as you like the feel of that thinner neck, this guitar can produce some really amazing tones.
