Hi , from the book " The Fender Stratocaster " by A.R. Duchossoir , page 55

in 69 : Blue ice, Sonic Blue, no violet
In 70 ; nothing in blue or violet

Be carefull some '69 strat ( by serial number ) are made in '70 ...

I have one dating by serial number is made in '69 but potentiometres date are 1970 . It is all original. '70 parts mean '70 Strat not '69.

Funny thing , in this forum since few years , I only read people have 69 Strat but never I read they have a '70 !

Thank you for your help.

The Fender is not mine. I am looking at purchasing it.
The serial number is 253676 and the colour is a deep blue in the photographs.

Is this possible. The seller claims that it is Baltic blue but this seems to be a Squire colour.

How can I attach a picture to show you?

Your serial number 253676 mean it should be a 1969 as the book "The Stratocaster" by A.R. Duchossoir.

Forget what I write before . I was talking about a 1979 Strat, not 1969 ( too early in the morning maybe )
But for color I was right.

You have to download photo on "photobucket " or something like that.

After the photos are there you choose one photo with mouse pointer , choose "IMG code" and copy.

Go to Fender forum , "answer" and write you "IMG code" there.

I wouldn't even trust the S/N only. If it's really important that it's a '69 and not a '70, I would take the guitar apart and look at the dates on the heal of the neck.

Go on google and writed ; " dating pots "

Look there;

http://www.vintagerocker.com/potinfo.html

Or

http://home.provide.net/~cfh/pots.html

Pot Source Codes.
Here are the most common pot manufacturers (the first 3 digits of the source-date code):
106 = Allen-Bradley
134 = CentraLab
137 = CTS (Chicago Telephone Supply, pots and speakers)
140 = Clarostat
304 = Stackpole
381 = Bourns Networks
615 = IRC (International Resistive Company) - see below
Fender Products.

During the 1950's, Fender used mostly Stackpole (#304) pots. Then in roughly early 1963, they changed to CTS (#137) pots. In 1967 (after CBS bought Fender), Fender bought a HUGE supply of pots from CTS. This supply lasted for over five years. So guitars and amps made as late as 1973 can still have 1967 date codes from this huge 1967 stocking.
