Can't say TO MUCH about Jeff Beck!
Absolutely one of the greatest guitarists of all time.. Been a fan for almost as long as he's been playing...

Speaking of pu's .. Has anyone ever heard of Daivd Gilmour pu's .
I 'm almost certain I saw an add several years ago in some guitar mag advertising DG pu's from Fender.. I can't find no such animal anyplace and beginning to wonder if I actually saw the add or not.....

Also, am thinking of installing lace sensors ( Gold ) for bridge (Silver ) for middle and Blue for neck on a 62 RI w/ Rosewood neck. Anyone have any idea how this'll work ?

Noiseless pups are OK, but I think the 60 cycle hum from Strat pups is part of that vintage Strat tone.

I agree.

My '57/'62's are just fine in my opinion

I have installed the hot noiseless pickups in my strat which I built. They're in an ash body, with a maple neck.

The first thing I noticed after installing them was that their not entirely "noiseless." They do still produce a semi-hum (but nothing like the awful annoying hum that radiates from my Eric Johnson strat)

When played clean, they leave much to be desired - they almost sound like they are too weak [when played] clean! But I can see how somebody would call that a "stiff" sound (I never could quite describe that until I saw someone post the stiff comment before me on this forum).

Distorted though, is a different story. They have a nice modern dirty sound. I found it's not hard to get a creamy scream out of them (which sounds very much strat-like). I wired the bridge pickup to the back tone pot (just as it is on the EJ strat) which is nice, because the bridge pickup in this set, is VERY hot, and VERY trebly.

Bottom line: good pickups for the price. Noiseless aspect could be better, but the overall distorted tone is what will buy most players today. If you want a great clean noiseless pickup: cheap= fender vintage noiseless, pricier upgrade= Kinman (any model, depending on how you play)

Bill TURNER designed the Hot Noiseless, not Bill Lawrence.

The Hot Noiseless is not really all that hot, as hot pickups go. It does have more punch than most. If you do a direct comparison to the Vintage Noiseless, the Hot Noiseless actually has more high-end. The only way to get the highs with the Vintage Noiseless is using those 1 meg pots. The Hot Noiseless actually sounds balanced with 250k pots.

I'm not a fan of the Vintage Noiseless.

Hi Fellows,

I just into the topic of "Hot Noiseless Pickups" and a few companies have at one point or another made noiseless single-coil pickups, most notably EMG.
They have been making them for a long time with the preamp control to control output and tone; David Gilmour during Monetary Lapse of Reason tour
used them in his Strat, real nice tone.

I installed a little 59 in bridge position this past weekend..
Great tone ! no doubt.!
Only a couple of setbacks. when switching to the second position on selector switch the tone between the 59 and the texas special in middle position is extremely treble,, it actually sounds pretty good but soooooo different from before. also, has a lot less volume ,,the 59 is so much stronger than the TS.
One thing for sure.. I wanted bright .. I got it in that second position.. it's almost like the bridge pup on a tele....

Soooo,, I'll either have to get used to the difference or unwire the middle pup from the bridge or have to spring for the whole set of 59's ...
Beware when changing pups !

I'm still waiting for noiseless Texas Specials to come out. Maybe one blue moon it will happen.

How about the Samarium Cobalt pickups? What's their story? Are they just an update of the original noiseless pickups or do they have a tone unto themselves?

Nitro...

You likely have a phase issue between the Duncan and your middle pickup. Sometimes all that you need to do is reverse the positive and negative leads on the Duncan and the problem goes away. Try it and see what happens. Duncan and Fender do not use the same standards in winding their pickups, so these issues are common.

ravenhaller...

The Samarium Cobalt pickups are a huge step forward from the Vintage Noiseless IMO. They are the ones designed by Bill Lawrence and have a much smoother tone overall. The Hot Noiseless though is probably a bit closer to the Texas Specials... But still not all that close really. But the HN is a more aggressive tone as the Texas Specials are also more on the aggressive side.

Thanks to Bill Turner, Fender has one of the best sounding and AFFORDABLE noiseless pups.

I stiil use them in my American Series strat. To my ears, these pups are very good sounding and very "stratty" My only complain is for the bridge pup that indeed could be a little hotter but it's really a matter of taste here.

The real benefit to me is the noise reduction. I do home recordings and I'm always sit in front of a computer screen, surrounded by lights controlled by dimmers, there is a tv set near too, etc.

It was real nightmare to do my recordings with the original single coils. Now I can really enjoy doing my stuff quietly! And still feeling like playing a Strat!

I don't play often live with an amp but my Peavey Valveking 112 really scream with these pups! The VK is very versatile. It can do real nice cleans to heavy tones and even a low volume, the pups seems a perferct companion for that kind of amp. On a Vox Tonelab they are delicious and on a Vox AD30VT they are notthing but sweet! Clean or distorted I find Hot Noiseless tone very strat sounding, without the noise!

Highly recommended!
YMMV

SMark,
I swapped the green and black wires and seems to have corrected the phase issue, but when I pull the knob and revert back to bridge position on pup selector I have no output..

I dunno,, man,,, just about ready to call it quitsa and leave well enough alone,, Has great tone as is

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here

With pup selector in bridge position and push/pull knob pushed I should have one coil ( or both depending on wiring ).
When knob is pulled I should have just the opposite
for instance if knob is pushed and one coil is on when I pull the knob both coils should be on

CORRECT ?????

Well it's certainly not the best clip to show how good these pups are but I just made it. It's still hot! And It's called: HotNoiselessBlue.mp3

I play the strats, the Roland TD3-KWS V-Drums, a Cort Bass and the B3 ! (on a Korg Triton Le) It's recorded on Logic Express witn an intel iMac. I use the Logic's amp simulator. All direct recordings, nothing miked.

I hope you'll like it!
