Fender makes accessory sets which allow you to easily change your guitar's cosmetics. Look for P/N 0991368000 -- ACCESSORY KIT, AGED WHITE. This set includes pickup covers, control knobs, rear tremolo cover, switch tip, and tremolo arm tip -- all in a matching vintage-style color. They run about $20 on Ebay. I periodically see the pickup covers available as a separate set, usually for around ten bucks.

Is buying a pickup cover set necessary?

My current pickups are already vintage/creme, can I just reuse the covers I currently have for the new pickups or no?

For ref, it is a stock Am Deluxe, so they are N1s.

From memory you may find the covers of the N3 slightly deeper than the specials.
They mount with a thread which is embedded in the pickup so this will be different as well.
You can easily compare this when you get the Texas specials.
In addition the covers of the Scns and N3s are a bit harder to remove than your standard
pickup.
Just a point to note the middle Texas is also reverse wound so you may get some weird phase sounds if you wire in the S1.
I would agree with Arjay get some new covers.
Watch out for the fine pickup wires when you install the new ones.
Hope this helps

+1

Andybighair or The Martian will likely have some helpful wiring tips.
