I think that fender needs to revamp their colors. maybe create a run oif butternut yellow, maybe a coral color. I just dont like walking into a music store and only seeing black, 3 tone sunburst, and sienna sunbursts guitars. I would like to see a trans green, trans red, and a trans purple. or maybe a purple guitar all together? the fender mexican line needs to have the plain jane colors. but then again, the mexical strats outsell the american standards at least 5-1.

They did their American Standards in Jade Green Pearl Metallic and their FSR US Deluxes in Ice Blue Metallic and Aztec Gold.

thats true about the Jade Pearl Metallic. The FSR's do look very sexy, but are out of my price range though.

Transparent Teal was a colour option for the Deluxes between 1998 and 2003.

From 2004 to 2006 the finish was offered on the 1st generation Hwy 1s, though I saw a couple of post-2004/pre-2010 FSR Deluxes finished in that colour.

How about a return of the early 80s international series colours that included

maui blue
morocco red
capri orange
monaco yellow
cathay ebony
sahara taupe
arctc white

With black plastic parts.......would be more interesting to me than relicing everything!!!!

The Custom Shop did a pair of '62 Relic Strat and Tele in Capri Orange. The Tele featured a chrome-covered humbucker in the neck.

A few CS guitars featuring "Jewel" finishes such as this Blue Stratoburst Custom Classic Strat (pictured, not mine) came also into the scene. These creations were masterbuilt by Greg Fessler.

Fender Japan produced a batch of Capri Orange-finished guitars and basses in the late 1980s-early to mid-1990s.

I agree with you that there should be more colors, but I remember Fender had many more colors and people didn't really buy them. People wanted black (clapton), white (Hendrix) and sunburst because, well it's sunburst.

It costs money to make colors that not a lot of people want.

+1

Which is why "back in the day" there was a 5% upcharge in the price of a Fender guitar whenever the buyer wanted a custom finish from the available palette of Duco colors. Such instruments had to be ordered and paid for in advance.

So many people want to see so many guitars with so many 'exotic' colors, claiming they would readily buy them if offered. I'm sure Fender's statistics of the few of the "so many people" who actually did buy them when offered is why the colors are narrowed down to what 'is available' (read, "sells") today.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

But to offer the option at a cost isnt going to ruin fender. To pay an extra 5-10% for a colour from the fender palette would be nice. Even if fender say "we need x number of guitars in a colour before we produce them. With the offer across even just the mexican and US range, it wouldnt take long to get enough orders in a colour to make it viable to pump them out for a couple of weeks all at once. Getting an employee to paint 10 different colours a day would be silly, but backing orders up until a decent number is reached would make sense.

I can imagine a guy turning up at the paint booth faced with a stack of 30 various bodies, strats, teles, bases, jags with a note that just says "please paint all the bodies daphne blue". Easy stuff.

You're preaching to the choir.

All they need to do is add maybe Lake Placid Blue and ditch a gray color, and then add one other non black or white based color, and It'd be great.

Yes. And no.

Yes -- It seems a different burst finish a year wouldn't be crazy. Just rotate them, change them up.

No -- There are so many aftermarket ways to change the look of a Strat that maybe Fender is wise just to stick to the basics.

I like the color scheme of my EXTREMELY modified Strat. It started out as a 1975 standard - over the years everything has been replaced execpt the body and the bridge pickup:

My next step is to install a SD JB JR. in the bridge position.

Nice. Best part is it looks heavily played.
