How is the telecaster different than the stratocaster. I noticed that the country folks all play telecasters. Is that because the sound is more twangy?

Right - like Jeff Beck sounds really twangy when he plays his tele! It's like the Stones and the Beatles... they are both brilliant and yet simultaneously, totally dissimilar!

Not to be disrespectful, but just look at them... do they look the same? I think if you truly want an answer to your question, you might want to do a bit of research first and then ask a specific question... like, how does the totally different three bridge system on a tele affect the sound? ... for example.

Traditionaly speaking, Teles are more twangy than Strats. That is, a 57 Tele would likely be more twngy than a '57 Strat. But a Jimmie Vaughan Strat is more Twangy than a John 5 Tele. And, the tele that Jimmy Page got from Jeff Beck, doesn't sound like a Tele or a Strat, but like an SG with P-90's (at least that's what I always thought).

It's easier to do Country Licks and Install a B-Bender on a Hardtail, and that usually means a Tele. It's easier to manipulate a Wammy-Bar if you have one, and that usually means a Strat.
