Hello everyone, first post here.
Finally at 38 I manage to fulfil one of my childhood dreams, a Stratocaster (!).

I got my hands on a second hand MIM Classic Player 60s practically brand new and at a very good price.
The previous owner had it set up with .12s and 5 springs.
I went back to .10s and 3 springs, balancing the bridge to Fender specs.

Now, only problem is that before doing action and intonation I wanted to check whether the truss rod needs adjustment.

Here's my question: does the classic player 60s have a bi flex truss rod? Asking this just because the neck is a bit too straight now, and I wanted to give it a slight relief.

Thanks for your help

No, it doesn´t have a bi flex truss rod. You just have to loosen the trussrod a bit (start with a quarter turn). You would have to unscrew the neck though.

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks Robin!

Ok, this is exactly what I did. 1/4 turn, a couple of times, waiting a day before checking again, but then I thought if the guitar has a classic truss rod, loosening it won't change anything....isn't a classic truss rod only effective to straighten the neck?

Yes, but the strings pull the neck more by loosening the truss rod.
So, if the truss rod is well set in and adjusted you don´t need a bi flex at all.

Cheers,
Robin

Give the neck a little time. Classic one-way truss-rods don't have the instant gratification effect of the bi-flex in situations like this, but in most cases they're pretty effective, and in my experience more stable and less prone to breaking/stripping. I'm guessing the previous owner had the truss rod pretty tight to compensate for the 12s; you may want to back the truss rod nut off a little more, wait for it to develop some relief, than tighten it gradually until it's where you want it. I have a '62RI with a heel-end truss rod adjust myself, so I totally understand this is a PITA to do trial-and-error, haha. But once you get it set up you should be good.

I think you're right as in the previous owner must have had the truss rod pretty tight.

So, you guys reckon I should keep on trying hoping the strings tension will finally make the neck to move and give me that slight relief I'm looking for...
