Anybody using Dimarzio p/ups in their strat? Specifically, Area '61 & '58's. If so, how do you like them? What positions? What size pots?

I'm thinking about replacing a lace sensor set (red, slvr, blue) that I'm completely unsatisfied with and using a '61-neck, '58-mid, and '61-bridge.
Looking for a versatile slightly hotter classic strat tone with no hum.

Any comments/suggestions?

Using EMGs (SLV [Steve Lukather] single coils and an 85 Humbucker coupled with SPC & RPC tone pots.)

I have the Dimarzio Area 58s with a 61 in the bridge. I can't say enough about how great these pickups are. If your looking for a true single coil sound, but with no hum, these are the best (IMHO). The Kinman pickups may be slightly better, but at a much higher cost.

They use stock (250k) pots.

I wouldn't alternate the pickups like you suggested because you loose a bit of the in-between position quack that way. I tried the area61 in the middle and it was very good, but you get more quack with similar pickups next to each other. For reasons I don't understand, the quack between the bridge and middle is still pronounced with the 61 in the bridge.

From your description you might want to try the area 61 all around. The nice thing is that Dimarzio will swap them out for you if it's not exactly what you wanted.

I use the 58/58/61 combo in my Strat along with the stock pots for master volume and master tone. I use a 1megohm Fender pot as a blender so I can dial it in for any combination of the pickups.

After 40 years of many, many Strats, Strat pickups and combinations, I've finally been fully satisfied for the first time with this DiMarzio combo. They cover it all in terms of true, traditional Strat sounds along with outstanding sustain and no hum. The price is right too!

I once swapped out the stock pups in a Buddy Guy MIM 'Polka Dot' for Dimarzio Heavy Blues and was satisfied with them.
