I find maple has a slightly twangier sound. Not a massive difference to me, as my only maple 'board guitar has 3 ridiculously powerful humbuckers in it... can't really compare that to rosewood & some delicate singlecoils.

Play both, make up your mind. Both feel great. Both look great. Both sound great.

Play them side by side and find out.

@ Paris +1

The Rosewood vs. Maple fingerboard topic is an ongoing and probably never-ending discussion. http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=69558

FWIW here is my proverbial 2-cents:
Look: I can see the difference. Both are beautiful. My preference for a Strat is maple.
Feel: I can feel the difference. Both feel good. My preference is maple.
Sound: Based on repeated blind tests, I cannot hear the difference but my preference is still maple. 8)

A most profound response!

This should be the 'official' answer to this question along with the same regarding alder vs. ash.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I think you'd have to have a pretty good ear to hear a difference. But they do feel different. I like the look of maple but prefer the feel of rosewood.

Mate in all truth there is no damn difference. I own a lot of Fenders and Gibsons and my genereal rule of thumb is; Maple Neck for Fenders and Rosewood for Gibsons.

There are so many other elements that contribute to tone!!

I really think that the neck be it Maple or Rosewood comes down to feel of that grain of wood as you play, not tone :P
