I am looking to purchase a Tele that has a special edition sticker on the back of the neck. The appearance is that of a standard tele with a natural finish on the body.

The sn: MZ8211215 Identifies it as a mexi-tele. The owner identifies it as a 2010-2011 (not sure on that)The asking price is much higher than I have seen other mexi-tellies go for. So I am wondering what makes this a special edition?

Can anyone provide me any info on this guitar? I am new to the fender family and don't want to get taken.

If you have the time to wait for a reply email consumerrelations@fender.com with the serial number and they will send you all the info you need.

The MZ8 serial makes it ia 2008 / 2009 Mexican made guitar.

Thanks for the help. I have sent my inquiry to fender direct. How long does it take them to answer?

+1

The natural clear-coated finish is likely applied over an ash body. That may account for the premium asking price.

Wait....wait......aint this the Stratocaster page? ;O)

Well by the Serial # date marking.........it SHOULD be a 2008...and would be 8 or 9 times out of 10.
This one indeed tracks to Feb 2010, though.
I'm showing two FSR models...same Part number...one with White/Black/White Pickguard that was a run of 393 for GC in 2004......then what looks to be (this one) and upgraded version which was made from 2006 on, it appears (no discontinued date).

Anyway....here's what i could find. If you got a hold of Consumer Relations (always a good thing to do!!)...they should have the same info.
Cheers,
rob

I think because you pointed out he was in the Strat Forum and not the Tele Forum.

So Rob...confused that the serial number doesn't reflect the true origin of the guitar if what I understand of your info above shows???

Is it common for this to happen? Or did I misunderstand?

Hi Tyronne,
Yeh, i probably didnt state that as well as i could have. On modern day Fenders, the serial number usually reflects the approximate year of manufacture as well as country of origin and decade....i.e. MN8 would be---Mexico--Nineties- 8 so 98 MZ2 would be Mexico 2002 or thereabouts. Its not an exact science and one shouldn't bank on it...but 9 times out of ten it is in the pocket. In this case,MZ8 would indicate 2008. Not so on this neck as the guitar was completed in 2010 according to the tracking I have available to me (mainframe). Reasons vary...chances are that it is just a serial number label that hadn't been used. Hope that helps!
cheers,
rob
