Before I start adding "goop" to the spring, is there a reason the black spring under the tremolo bar is free standing? I'd rather not loose it...

A lot of people have inquired about that stupid spring. Don't overlook the search function on this site.

Thanks for the heads up on the search engine... seems there is a lot of static over that little bit of metal! Still not sure what to do with it though...

Use it, the bar doesn't feel right if you lose that spring and you end up being able to screw the bar too far in if it's not there and the action of the bar then feels weird.
