So i've adjusted mine quite a bit lately merely due to the fact that once you know what you don't like, you'll know what you do...anyone going through the same experience? I contacted fender and they pretty much said go for it due to the low magnetic pull from these pickups.
I'm set up at the moment at Noiseless height playing blues and rock

Hi strato_bob. I have adjusted mine (AM Deluxe HSS 2005) and found that it does not make that huge a difference on tone as it makes to the volume. With the pick-ups close to the strings (2 mm) I didn't notice any loss in sustain due to downward string pull, but I found it annying that my right hand kept muting my bass string unto the pickup with nasty scraping sounds as a result. I have therefore adjusted the hight of my SCN's to have the output similar to that of my other stratocaster with Kinman Woodstock Plus pups. This means that when I switch guitars I don't have to compensate output wise.

i believe the way to do it is hold down the string at the last fret, then measure with a ruler the distance between the string and the pickup. too close, and the magnetifc filed grabs hold of the string and kills off the vibrations, you want the sting to move aourd in the magnetic field without being affected by it, you are better off having the string as far away as you can wihile still maintinging a good voltage level out.
the ideal way to do it would be to terminate the guitar with a 600 ohm resistor and hang an o'scope on the line out and measure the voltage with the attenuators all turned off. i say attenuator S plural, because i wired mine with one pot to each pick up. i dont know what you did.
we're looking for around 1 volt there at the out if we can get it.
that would be peak if we are gonna hit a analog to digital converter with it, anything over 1 volt peak can not be represented with numbers we rite using a digital recorder. thats rite around what they call 0 db level.
you may not get it that hi but, hey thats allrite too, thats why they make preamps.
somebody stole my o'scope, tracy?, you know anything about that?
i had a 4 channel textronix that went up to 20 giga hertz so i can see the signal of the microwave up on the roof if i need to. oh, thats another topic, i'm outta here.i have a virtual o'scope on my computer now for audio that work well. that is an option, hook it up to a computer and turn everything all the way up and look at the wave form on a good audio editing program like SONAR. there is audacity if you dont have any bread. it is nice to for audio. its good enuf for consumer work.you can zoom in on the individual peaks and see if there is any difference between the setting of the pickups, and exactly what moving the pickup up or down does to the signal.
the harmonix involveld may not be very easy to see. keep the string as far away from the pick up as you can while maintaing a good signal level.
i allready sed that huh?
yo? didja c the new tele with the cuved out back where it rests on your belly nice, it has the curve like on a strat, they have another sound a TELE deluxe they call it
wayne out in sf ca usa :D
