To be true to a 57 type pickguard, the pickguard would have a detent in it right at where it mates with the neck at the truss rod adjustment. This little semi-circular indentation is for easier access to turning the truss rod.

In point of fact, no -- a true-to-prototype single-ply '57-pattern pickguard does not have the truss-rod relief notch. This detail was added when the 3-ply 11-screw pickguard was adopted circa 1959.

Yea, I made the whole thing up!

Seriously, I don't get caught up in all the exacting minutiae of Strats from "Day One" or any other model guitar for that matter so I'll readily concede that I could be off by two years.

Bullshit!

There's nobody here who's been more consistently right than The Martian.

time to try the new pick guard.
best way to remove volume knobs etc - they're on there kinda tight. pliers?
otherwise just unscrew all and whatever happens happens?
thanks

being the careless ahole that is I, I replaced the pick guard but lost one of the little rubber washers that mates with the mounting screws of the pickg. one of the eight screws. because of this the pup and the pup cover don't love one another and I can't accurately adjust the pup height.
anyone know the specs on this little rubber washer?
where to get a new one in nyc area?
on the other hand the guit looks badass and that's more important than how it sounds when played isn't it?
