Quote:
January 29, 1998 Fender Press Release:

Fender's Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Stratocaster® recreates the sound made famous by the voodoo music master himself--Jimi Hendrix--for the righthanded player. The Voodoo Stratocaster has a right-handed alder body, a one-piece maple neck with reverse headstock, 21 medium jumbo frets, vintage pickups with reversed staggered pole pieces and reverse angle bridge pickup, a right-handed vintage bridge, rosewood or maple fretboard and vintage "F" tuners. Comes factory equipped with genuine Fender strings for optimum tone and performance.

Guitar players universally agree that Hendrix achieved his signature sound in part because he was a left-handed guitar player who played a right-handed Stratocaster strung left-handed. The reverse bridge pickup angled down towards the bass string produces a unique sound that differs from a standard Stratocaster bridge pickup. The low strings are much brighter and more articulate and the high strings are warmer and fuller. When a right-handed guitar is strung lefthanded, the change in string tension and the reverse staggered pole pieces on the pickups have a direct effect on the tone, which is how Hendrix made his high strings scream and achieved pure, clear tones on his low strings. Since it's a challenge to play a guitar body that's upside down with all the knobs and the tremolo in the way, Fender made it easy for the right-handed player to comfortably obtain the Hendrix sound. Everything on the Voodoo Strat is designed to give all the sonic benefits of playing an upside-down Strat like the original guitar that Hendrix used, only on a right-handed body.

Many spec sheets mistakenly list only maple fretboards available but the original Fender Press Release above shows rosewood and maple. The rosewoods are definitely rare, but I have come across quite a few in my searches to buy one. Here is an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvVBv5iDVvM. It includes all the proper case candy, a TN7 serial number, and the Hendrix neck plate. (although note this linked video mistakenly includes "Tribute" in the title when what he has is a Voodoo strat; either way it is real and has a rosewood fretboard).

Hi there, No problem. You are correct. None of my strays are Jimi Hendrix Tribute strats. Three of my strats are Jimi Hendrix Vooodoo strats. Many people don't realize it, but Fender has release many versions of Hendrix signature models over the years.

The Tribute strats are fully left handed guitars with the strings and strap button flipped for right handers. The Voodoo strats, on the other hand, are right handed bodies, with reverse headstocks, and left-handed pickups, but made for right-handers. Basically, the Voodoo strat sought to mimic the appearance and sonic qualities of Hendrix without sacrificing the playability by having the guitar fully flipped with the bigger strap horn in the way of the upper frets.

OK, thanks. So, on the links below:
http://www.stratcollector.com/newsdesk/archives/000183.html

http://www.stratcollector.com/newsdesk/archives/000183.html#tribute

which of the Fender Hendrix guitars are most desirable?
Oldest Hendrix Strats most valuable?
Newest Hendrix Strats less valuable?

Thanks. They are pretty cool.

Did Fender make BOTH models?
1) Right-handed guitar flipped for a Left-handed player?
2) Left-handed guitar flipped for a Right-handed player?

Hi, MyMiela!
I purchased the below 2011 Fender American Deluxe "LEFT-HANDED" Stratocaster.
Simply had the Stratocaster "FLIPPED" into a Jimi Hendrix Clone
1) Added Shaller Strap Buttons
2) Flipped, refiled & modified the nut
4) added three special "Jimi" Reverse Stagger Alnico Premium Pickups (Set)

I just got it back and sounds awesome.
I'm in the "photo shooting mode" for EBay, so I'll add
a couple photos of my NEW JIMI HENDRIX STRATOCASTER :!:

Save your money now. Buy the retro later

I've got a white one with a rosewood board I might be convinced to sell.

Like new condition but with no case or candy (no official case anyway...I'll throw in a new tweed).

husq510 at hotmail dot com if you're interested. I'm in Chicago.

Sorry but the color is off in some of these. The body is much more yellow than the back shot shows. I'll post a better one later.

Heck....I just made my own VooDoo Strat!!
This is a MIM 60's Reverse Special with a 2010 Highway One 9.50" radius neck.
I didn't like the Maple 7.25" radius neck that came with it...
I bought a laser etched Jimi neckplate off of E-Bay.
It has a DiMarzio Area 58(n), Area67 (m) and a Solo Pro (Br.)
Along with Fender/Schaller locking tuners and Graph Tech String Saver saddles!
I LOVE her!! Sounds amazing!!
I'm thinking of having an artist buddy do her up MONTEREY style next year....I have a repro Monterey tremolo cover and body sticker like the original...
